COTTON

Cotton is an excellent fiber for textiles. It is the world’s most popular fiber, but it is also the most heavily sprayed crop in the world and therefore one of the least ecological harvests. The chemicals used in growing cotton are some of the most toxic substances used in farming.

FACTS ABOUT Chemically-grown cotton:
  - The pesticides used in conventional cotton farming are among the most widely used chemicals in the world and are among the most dangerous to human health. These pesticides harm people, wildlife and the environment.
  - Conventionally grown cotton occupies only 3% of the world's farmland, but uses 25% of the world's chemical pesticides.
  - It takes about 1/3 of a pound of pesticides and fertilizers to grow enough conventional cotton for just one t-shirt.
  - Conventional cotton crops make thousands of acres of farmland too barren or contaminated for further farming as the land is considered toxic waste.
  - As insects gradually become resistant to pesticides, greater amounts of pesticides are applied in order to be effective.
  - Less than 10% of chemicals applied to cotton accomplish their task at reducing pests and increasing fertility. Instead, 90% of the chemicals used are absorbed into the plant, air, soil, water and our bodies.
  - Agricultural chemicals are considered one of the leading causes of groundwater and drinking water pollution.
  - It is estimated that pesticides are the cause of thousands of deaths each year globally.
Many of these chemicals are known carcinogens, cause neurological damage, create reproductive abnormalities and increase the rate of miscarriages.

FACTS ABOUT ORGANIC COTTON:

Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a limited impact on the environment. Organic production systems replenish and maintain soil fertility, reduce the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers, and build biologically diverse agriculture. Third party regulators certify and verify that organic producers use only acceptable methods to produce “organic” cotton. The dyes used to treat these garments minimize environmental impact, yet ensures flawless color distribution, incredible softness and durability.

  - Organic cotton growers use natural pest control and fertilizers.
  - They depend on healthy, living soil to produce strong plants, resistant to pests and disease.
  - Organic cotton farming requires less water for irrigation than chemical cotton farming.
  - Organic cotton produces longer cotton fibers, which yield stronger yarn and more durable fabric.
  - Only the lowest impact chemical dyes or vegetable fabric dyes are used to meet 100% organic cotton quality standards dyeing process.
  - Organic cotton feels softer, more luxurious and more breathable against the skin and is hypo-allergenic.

By choosing organically grown cotton, you protect yourself, each one of us, our planet, our children and their future. Choosing organic has a positive effect on you and on everyone on the planet.

BAMBOO

Bamboo is not a crop that can be certified as organic, since bamboo is considered a weed. As such, it grows freely, without the use of chemicals. Buying bamboo instead of non-organic cotton is a powerful way to protect landscapes, wildlife and waterways since non-organic cotton is one of the most toxic crops grown in the world today.

Bamboo is a hugely environmentally friendly resource. Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the planet, with some species having been recorded to grow over four feet in just 24 hours. Bamboo can be continuously re-harvested every three years with no damage to the surrounding environment. This regular harvesting is actually of benefit to the health of the bamboo plant. As the plant regenerates, its root system remains intact, preventing soil erosion where it is harvested. These anti-erosion properties are key to the bamboo’s reputation as a useful soil conservation tool. The lack of erosion creates an effective watershed, stitching the soil together along fragile riverbanks, deforested areas, and in places prone to earthquakes and mud slides.

Bamboo cloth has been compared to spun cotton, silk or cashmere, when it touches the skin. It is naturally anti-microbial, since it contains “bamboo kun”, which prevents bacterial growth and requires no chemical treatment. Bamboo is also naturally hypoallergenic, breathable and offers UV protection.

MATERIALS

GOLD

Gold has attracted people from ancient times. It is revered as mysterious, precious, healing and luxurious. At Positive PossibilitiesTM we choose to use gold for our unique, hand made jewelry. Due to its clean energy, we believe that gold is one of the best metals available in jewelry making. Though it can be a more expensive metal than others like silver, its benefits are well worth it.

Good Energy GOLD

Due to its lack of toxicity, gold is widely used in medicine. Its malleability and ability to conduct energy, while remaining resistant to wear and corrosion, make it highly useful in science.

Energy healers and the spiritually sensitive agree that gold is an excellent energy generator and purifier. It removes energy blocks with its naturally sunny, strengthening power. It amplifies and conducts energy throughout the body/being. Gold encourages balanced brain function, soothes and strengthens the nerves, assists in cell regeneration, and supports healthy communication. Where other metals, like silver, tend to hold on to and collect dirty energy, gold is a clean energy conductor.

We are interested in finding an ethical supplier for our gold, preferably one that sources from recycling rather than new mining. If you are a supplier or know of one, please contact us.
